Modify audio circuitry by adding a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor between the “mic i/p” and “mic o/p” connections to earth on the echo/voice effect PCB, this will help to reduce RF feedback problems.
Add a 2.7KOhm resistor with a ferrite bead on it in series with the audio line after the mic gain control to reduce the audio level a touch, and adds even more filtering.
These mods seems to fix the RF feedback that plagues this chassis.
1) Open up your radio.
2) Find the small circuit board on the left of the radio.
3) Cut the green wire and tape it off.
4) There is an unplugged connector by this board….plug it in.
5) That’s it.!You now have 8 bands of 40 channels.25.165-28.755.
Lo Power – VR16
Hi Power – VR13
SSB Power – VR12
Modulation – VR14
Audio Limiter – TR53
Add a 8.2KOhm in series with R249 and a 1KOhm resistor across D92 to give more AMC adjustment range.
Lift leg of R-238. Insert a 1N4745 Zener Diode (a 16V, 1 W type), band side up.
Channel Expansion Version 2 (more detailed, but the same)
Here is a little trick I found for the galaxy FC148 frequency counter to work on the galaxy 33 that has been modified for CB channels.
Remove the pc board from the case.
Remove the metal cover on the pc board.
Remove the jumper at JP and reasemble.
Now it will plug in and work like it is suppose to on the galaxy 33
(I dont know about the other plug in models as this is the only one I have messed with)
Adjustments
VR 1….AM/FM S-Meter
VR 2….SSB S-Meter.
VR 3….SSB Squelch Range
VR 4….AM/FM Squelch Range.
VR 7….SSB Carrier Balance
VR 8….RF Meter 7.VR11…Driver Bias.
VR12…SSB ALC
VR13…Hi Power.
VR14…AMC
VR15…AM Low Power.
VR16…SSB Low Power.
VC 1….10.240
VC 2….10.240
Channel Expansion Version 1
Remove the top cover.
Just above the PLL you will find a jumper block.
There is only one jumper on this block..Move the jumper from bottom left position to top right position.
I have been informed by a visitor to my site that it is possible to get coverage from 26.000 Mhz – 31.999 Mhz buy adding another jumper instead of moving it.
Just add the jumper between pins 2 and 3, leave the other jumper on pins 4 and 5.
Channel Expansion Version 2
Remove the top cover.
Near the front of the radio located behind the display will be a black jumper block next to two pins that have nothing on them.
Another black jumper block comes with the radio and will be in the accessories package.
Slide it over the 2 pins that are not covered and the unit will operate from 26.000 mhz to 32.000 mhz
